(All Times Eastern) – July is known as the month we celebrate our independence. On July 4th, people will gather with family and friends for BBQs and picnics as they celebrate America. It all culminates with fireworks displays that make you “ooh” and “ahh” in amazement. While all this happens in one day, cable will keep the excitement going all month long with shows and specials that will delight, amaze, and even shock you into wanting more. Let’s look at some of the exciting programming options this coming July.

Season Premieres

People can’t get enough of these shows. That’s why they get renewed each year. Snowfall on FX is back for another season as it dives deeper into the crack cocaine epidemic in the days of its infancy. The crew from Jersey Shore returns to MTV with new episodes on “Jersday” nights. The “can’t look/can’t look away” phenomenon known as Dr. Pimple Popper is back with more poptastic stories on TLC. And long-running Suits on USA is back for their final season this summer. These are just some of the shows premiering this month. New Shows of Interest

When I talk about fireworks, you won’t find anything more explosive than the new Suits spin-off from USA called Pearson. Pearson follows Jessica Pearson (played by Gina Torres), who lost her law license while on the show Suits. She is now working in the legal profession for the mayor of Chicago, who eerily resembles Rahm Emanuel. Filmed in Chicago and boasting a storyline that involves dirty politics, dark secrets, bribes, extortion, back room deals, one-upmanship, community activists, affairs and more, all in the first episode, this show is poised to be another hit for USA. As a Chicago resident, I found the first episode to be so close to home it was uncomfortable yet brilliant at the same time. Chicago locations and architecture play a prominent role in the show, so it’s visually exciting as well. This and other new shows can be explored below.
