(All Times Eastern) - The smell of fall is in the air.  The leaves are raked and the garden is put to sleep for the season.  Summer chores and summer fun (sniff) are coming to an end.  It’s time to grab your sweetie or your kids, maybe your pet or your favorite blanket and get ready to cozy up with these new and returning cable shows for October.  And while you enjoy your favorites, take comfort in the fact that your advertising is reaching others doing the same thing.

Before we check out the drama and horror offerings this month, let’s look at those reality shows you may be interested in.  First, Bravo offers up two returning shows and one new one this month.  Family, friends and frenemies reconvene for the eighth season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, which will debut with a 75-minute premiere on Wednesday, October 4th at 9 pm.  New housewife Margaret Josephs joins returning cast mates Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Siggy Flicker and Dolores Catania. The next night on Thursday, October 5th at 10 pm, new show Real Estate Wars brings the cut-throat world of real estate in Orange County to life. With limited inventory in a premium area, this series follows two top rival real estate teams, The McMonigle Team and Relegance Group, as they fight for supremacy in this distinct and wealthy enclave. It's the ultimate turf battle in the O.C., and things get tense when realty and reality collide. Then Friday, October 6th the Biermanns are taking charge on Bravo’s Don't Be Tardy... with a double episode premiere at 8 pm. Through marital bliss, teenage drama, a family trip and a horrifying brush with danger, the Biermann's family bond is as solid as a rock.

CNBC offers a little less drama in their reality with Adventure Capitalist on Tuesday, October 10 at 10pm.  Adventure Capitalists gives entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their product in the environment it’s designed for ─ the great outdoors!  Thrill-seeking investors Shawn Johnson, Dhani Jones and Jeremy Bloom travel the country to test products in extreme conditions and potentially offer investments. In each one-hour episode, four separate entrepreneurs showcase products designed for outdoor adventure. These cutting-edge products and inventions run the gamut; from outerwear that can insulate against freezing temperatures (even when wet), to a robotic fishing lure that brings dead bait back to life and a full suspension mountain bike that can trek over any terrain. The adventure capitalists then put these innovations to the test, often in harsh conditions, to determine which are actually worthy of an investment.

If you can’t find investors for your products, make your own riches…or watch others do it on Discovery’s Gold Rush.  On Friday, October 13 at 9pm, you can follow the lives of ambitious miners as they head north in pursuit of gold. With new miners, new claims, new machines and new ways to pull gold out of the ground, the stakes are higher than ever. But will big risks lead to an even bigger pay out?

Maybe you are already rolling in the gold…or the platinum…like the fierce and devoted women behind some of music's biggest names.  In The Platinum Life coming to E! on Sunday, October 15 at 10pm, watch these ladies take center stage and witness the experiences of these savvy and successful women as they navigate the ups and downs of their relationships, friendships and high-class lifestyles.

Want your reality a little bit grittier?  Criminal Confessions, which debuts Sunday, October 1 at 7pm on Oxygen from Executive Producer Dick Wolf (of Law & Order fame), delves into the psychological showdown that transpires inside actual police interrogation rooms between investigators and suspects and dissects what it takes to yield a confession. Each hour-long episode takes viewers through the emotional twists and turns of a real homicide case from the 911 call to the crime scene and leading up to the interrogation room where detectives corner their prime suspect.

How about a little skepticism or conspiracy theory to go with your reality TV?  Check out Expedition Unknown: Hunt for Extraterrestrials from Travel Channel on Wednesday, October 4th at 9pm.  Josh Gates' out-of-this-world mission takes him on an epic journey across North America, South America, Africa and Europe, searching for evidence of life beyond our planet and the truth behind longstanding extraterrestrial legends. Boldly going where no adventurer has gone before, Gates gains exclusive access to locations that may offer extraterrestrial evidence.

Maybe fun and games is more your style when it comes to reality.  Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party was a breakout hit last year for VH1 and it returns on Monday, October 16 at 10pm. In Martha and Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party, the Queen of Cuisine and the King of Kush come together to invite their celebrity friends over a little potluck fun. Games, recipes and musical guests. Each will invite celebrity friends over for a half-backed evening of cocktails, cooking, conversation, and fun where nothing is off limits.

Next we move into our new and returning dramas and movies for October.  Lifetime presents original movie Flint.  It’s the gripping retelling of a crisis that shook a nation and shines a light on the whistleblowers who exposed the biggest environmental scandal of our generation. Staring Queen Latifah, LeeAnne Walters, Melissa Mays and Nayyirah Shariff, the group of women join forces after discovering that the drinking water in Flint, Michigan is contaminated, resulting in a slew of devastating medical problems for their families. When their claims go unheeded, they band together to expose the wrongdoings committed by their reckless, bean-counting government officials whose carelessness caused irrevocable harm to the lives of its residents. Catch this movie on Saturday, October 28 at 8 pm.

Another “queen” returning to television is Queen Sugar from OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network.  The contemporary drama, set in Louisiana, chronicles the lives and loves of the estranged Bordelon siblings: Nova, a worldly-wise journalist and activist; Charley, the savvy wife and manager of a professional basketball star; and Ralph Angel, a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption.  Two-night season premiere air Tue & Wed October 2 & 3 at 10pm.

Moving from MTV to Spike, we have the sci-fi fantasy The Shannara Chronicles retuning on Wednesday, October 11 at 10 pm. The re-emergence of magic in the Four Lands has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among races. Together, our heroes must band together to take down The Crimson and prevent Bandon from unleashing an even greater threat upon the Four Lands… before it’s too late.

TNT has two returning dramas this month.  Good Behavior returns on Sunday, October 15 at 10pm.  Our heroine, Letty, has patched things up with Javier, reconciled with her mother, and got her son Jacob back. Letty, Javier and Jacob are now on the run from the FBI and are heading for a new life trying to be normal. But the more Letty and Javier try to create a normal life, the more things go awry.  Eventually normality fades as Letty goes from bad at being good… to good at being bad.  Major Crimes return later this month on Tuesday, October 31 at 9pm.  As Commander Sharon Raydor grows accustomed to her new boss, Assistant Chief Leo Mason, the detectives find themselves questioning their faith in the rapidly changing priorities of the justice system and their ability to reason through difficult changes in their personal relationships. Finally, they must accept the necessity of risk as they prepare to face the return of Phillip Stroh.

USA’s critically acclaimed series, Mr. Robot returns on October at 10pm and picks up the new season immediately following the Season 2 cliffhanger where the consequences of the f-society attack as well as the illusion of control were explored. Season 3 will dive into each character's motivations and the disintegration between Elliot and Mr. Robot.

And now for the scary stuff!  And it doesn’t get any more scary and gory and emotionally charged than AMC’s The Walking Dead.  This ratings powerhouse comes back on Sunday October 22 at 9pm.  This season, Rick brings "All Out War" to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless -- but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.

Syfy debuts new scripted drama Ghost Wars on Sunday, October 1 at 10pm.  Set in a remote Alaskan town that has been overrun by paranormal forces, the series focuses on local outcast Roman Mercer who must overcome the town’s prejudices and his own personal demons if he’s to harness his repressed psychic powers and save everyone from the mass haunting that’s threatening to destroy them all.

October also offers lots of opportunities to get in on the Halloween happenings and general spooky mayhem that many of your customers enjoy.  AMC offers scary movies during Fear Fest from October 13 to October 31. Syfy offers a full month of screams and scares with their 31 Days of Halloween marathon.  You’ll find movies almost 24/7 during the month of October on Syfy.  Freeform offers a more “family friendly” version of spooky as they air movies in early prime and prime Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday during their annual 13 Nights of Halloween event.  Comcast Spotlight account executives can provide you with more details on these events.

And after all of that, maybe the only reality you are interested in is that of the competitive sporting nature.  So ditch the blanket and grab your pizza, chips and adult beverages while you cheer on your favorite teams.  October offers a lot of national sports to keep you on the edge of your seat all month long.
